Another little note on Mulching and Soil Conservation

Mulching for the dry harmattan season of dry cool winds, all sun and no rain. Mulching to protect the soil. Mulching to keep the soil moist. Mulching to soften and condition the soil. Mulching to feed and enrich the soil. Mulching to build up the soil. Mulching to prepare the soil for later, better planting. Using dried, fallen leaves, cardboard and all else I can find, including letting weeds grow over and sometimes hoeing them and leaving them there to dry or to rot. This is how nature works. Also this is another reason why we need more trees. For more mulching and soil protection and building up of soil.

In these pictures i was just trying out some mulching to protect the soil and keep it moist and not let it get dry and hard. This in my the bare garden just starting out. Any way those dreams sailed away or rather were clarified and evolved. The Soil was not good enough(i can make it better overtime) so i ended up raking everything into a compost pile. All my planting will be in containers, pots and bags.

Many people think that a place looks better and tidy when all leaves are swept away and discarded and when the ground is completely weeded and clear and naked. Valid point. That is just a perspective. Theyre only losing out and causing more waste. Give dried leaves to those who need it. Use dried leaves to mulch your soil, and your potted plants, make compost, consume them yourself, if they are edible/medicinal etc. In a natural way of life, there should be no waste. Everyhting goes round in a cycle. Don't let your gardeners throw away precious leaves and garden cuttings and clippings.
