Starfruit Starfruit STarfRUIT

Always trying to increase and improve my stock and variety of Edible plants/trees. Slowly but surely. Here we have starfruit seedlings which i've started growing.  Also known as Carambola, native to tropical east asia. Not very common in the markets or around but you see the tree in a few peoples homes.
*

Their prime season of production/fruiting is the dry season. They tend to produce less in the rainy season. Theyre still fruiting now. They flower all year round and have these beautiful pink flowers. Its called starfruit because when you cut it horizontally?.. You get star shapes. Star fruit has a tangy slight citrus, apple taste. Theyre quite juicy too. They take 4 to 5 years to produce fruit and yes you can grow them in containers, not too small ones. Its a very productive tree and eventually you will end up with too much starfruit.

* They prefer a rich loamy soil to do best and i would say partial sun as seedlings /young trees, Not full lagos/Nigerian sun.. At this time of the year? .. No thanks. We want our plants to live. Starfruit is packed with vitamin c, fibre and super antioxidant. Invest in a starfruit tree for health and the environment and thank yourself later.
